Thanks so much to the Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club of the Western Reserve for inviting me to judge their specialty show held in conjunction with the Beaver County Kennel Club at the Steel Valley Cluster.
I thoroughly enjoyed the day despite the hot weather and was most impressed with the depth of quality in the entries. There were very few that I wouldn’t be proud to have in my own home. Special thanks to Dr. Debbie Dennis and Karen Grimmett for their caring hospitality. My gift of a painted slate by Linda Shaw picturing two of my favorite Corgis is a treasure I’ll be enjoying always. The trophy table was spectacular! Thanks, too, to Karen Fruhmann for taking snapshots of my placements. Because of time constraints as the Herding Group was scheduled first, my notes were extremely sketchy, and having a photo helped jog my memory.
It was a pleasant surprise that so many black-headed tris deservedly turned up in the Winners Class. It is great that breeders have not given up on them. Perhaps this may indicate a trend that we’ll be seeing more of them in future competition.
My entire Specials Class was breathtaking, and the breeders and owners should be very proud indeed.
I realize I have overused the word “quality” in this abbreviated critique, but there isn’t another word in our language to express this elusive … ummm … quality!
